This morning, Blayze Group Manchester was represented at Insider’s North West Devolution Debate. The breakfast event, sponsored by Irwin Mitchell and Newgate, invited professionals from a wide range of sectors to provide insight and assess the future devolution path for Greater Manchester.
Attendees had the opportunity to submit questions regarding devolution to a panel which included: Councillor Kieran Quinn (Executive Leader, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council), Mark Hughes (Group Chief Executive at Manchester Growth Company), Jon Lamonte (Chief Executive at Transport for Greater Manchester), Professor Alison Chambers (Pro Vice-Chancellor at Manchester Metropolitan University), Tom Stannard (Director of Economy of Skills at Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council) and Steve Gillingham (Director of the North at Mace).
Compelling topics were covered such as devolution’s necessity to deliver inclusive growth without an individual focus on Manchester city centre. The councils within Greater Manchester have already been working collaboratively for many years and this joined-up thinking will be essential to the success of devolution. Also raised was the need to have diversity within the new devolution path and ensure that workplaces across Greater Manchester are more inclusive and representative.
David Williams, Blayze Group Manchester’s Associate Director who attended the event, commented that ‘it was a really interesting event and the diverse backgrounds on the panel made it all the more informative. It’s clear that when we talk about the economic growth of Greater Manchester we have to consider a broad number of factors; not just the obvious such as housing and infrastructure but also education and creating a highly-skilled workforce as well as health and social care to ensure that people can live in attractive neighbourhoods and have a decent quality of life thus reducing the strain on the health system.”
Thank you to Insider for organising such an engaging and enlightening debate!
