The latest Purchasing Managers Index produced by Markit and the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) rebounded from last month's 85 month low of 45.9 to a more respectable 49.2. A figure of 50 represents 'no-change'.
It looks very much like the July figure was a knee-jerk reaction to the referendum decision and the August numbers indicate a more rational return to normality.
We expect the PMI to continue to recover through September as construction businesses and developers stop worrying about the EU and get on with building.
The latest PMI survey does show a third successive month of rising cost inflation - worth keeping an eye on as margins will be squeezed if this trend continues.
As far as hiring is concerned, the Construction Team at Blayze Group has been as busy as ever. There is always a bit of a slowdown over the summer months - mainly as decisions are delayed due to holidays - but we have a number of clients hiring across all disciplines in the construction sector. The reality on the ground seems to be quite different from what appears in the press - and the reactions of the stock markets!
High performing talent is always in demand - especially in times of uncertainty, when you need to have a top team to deliver large scale projects on time and within budget. We are sourcing senior cost management and PM teams for a number of high profile projects in London and the South East.
If you are looking for talent, or if you are a senior construction professional looking to advance your career, you really should talk to the team at Blayze Group!
