This week Blayze Group joined a number of industry leaders to promote careers in property and construction to students in the North West.
Laura Padgett and Ross Sowerbutts from Blayze Group were delighted to play a role in the Careers Fair at Sandbach organised by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).
The event was attended by many leading firms in the sector including Balfour Beatty, Carillion, Kier, Mott MacDonald, Sir Robert McAlpine and WSP. The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) was also in attendance as were representatives of Manchester and Chester Universities.
The Careers Fair was designed to highlight the many career opportunities in property and construction for school leavers thinking about their future options. The skills shortage in the property and construction sector is well recognised and it is important that the industry highlights the variety of rewarding career opportunities that are available to attract the next generation of talent.
Often school leavers don't appreciate the range of occupations that the sector can offer - from Architecture and Planning through Engineering and the many skilled trades in the industry to Project Management and Consulting. There are few industries that can match the rewards and varied careers paths that are open to talented and motivated people joining the property and construction sector.
NAWIC and progressive companies in the industry also recognise the importance of attracting more women into property and construction. Women have traditionally been under-represented at all levels in the sector and smart organisations recognise that this largely untapped talent pool is one way to help address the chronic skills shortage in the industry.
As the leading recruitment and talent management consultancy in property and construction, Blayze Group sees at first hand the shortage of candidates for key positions like senior Quantity Surveyors, experienced Project Managers, Building Surveyors and Technical Managers in both the residential and commercial sectors.
Unlike most recruiting firms, Blayze Group takes a very long term approach to the recruiting process, so it's not unusual for them to be attending events like this. Blayze Group grabs every chance to promote the opportunities that exist in this important and exciting industry.
Laura Padgett, Associate Director at Blayze Group's Manchester office and a committee member of NAWIC's North West branch, said: "It's vital for the future of the construction industry and the UK economy that we attract the best young talent into our fantastic sector. We're here today to tell young people about some of the brilliant opportunities in property and construction and to give them some ideas for rewarding and fulfilling careers. We'll also be dispelling some myths and encouraging more young women to consider a career path in construction. Our message today is that property and construction is a great industry for everyone to be involved with - and if you have the talent and drive, you can have a very successful and rewarding career."
The NAWIC North West Careers Fair was a great success, with lots of positive feedback from the students. Thanks to the NAWIC for organising the event and all those who participated and helped to promote our industry. It is great to see the enthusiasm and optimism of the next generation as they are about to embark on their careers - hopefully in property and construction!
