Blayze Group is pleased to announce that Laura Padgett - Associate Director at Blayze Group's Manchester office - has been appointed to the North West committee for the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC).
NAWIC is an international organisation of women working in the construction industry. Members include architects, lawyers, engineers, quantity surveyors, project managers and others working both directly in the industry and providing services to the industry. In the UK, NAWIC organises events such as site visits, legal seminars, workshops and industry-related events where members can network, share best practice and keep up to date with emerging trends and technologies in their chosen field.
NAWIC encourages individuals to pursue, establish and sustain successful careers in the Construction Industry.
Laura is passionate about attracting more women into the industry. A chronic skills shortage is holding back the whole construction industry at a time when there is a desperate need for more house building across the country and there are major infrastructure projects in Energy, Transport, Waste and Water sectors that will be competing for talent over the coming years. Yet women make up just 11% of the workforce in the construction industry and just 1% of workers on site.
There is a myriad of historical reasons for this imbalance, but the fact is that the construction industry is missing out on a huge talent pool that could be helping it grow and prosper.
Working with NAWIC and other industry bodies, Laura and Blayze Group will be helping industry employers with skills gaps to draw on this huge untapped pool of talent that has been ignored for too long.
For more details about NAWIC, visit the UK web site. For more information about NAWIC in the North West, reach out to the North West team. Or why not join sign up for the NAWIC National Conference on 10th November in Manchester?
Hosted by Trowers & Hamlins, it will take place at their Manchester office between 2pm and 5pm
This year's theme is "Retention and the development of talent in our industry" - a topic that will resonate with many in the construction industry at this time of skills shortages in many specialisms.
Trowers & Hamlins Manchester office is situated at 55 Princess Street, Manchester, M2 4EW.
You can see the agenda and book your spot for the NAWIC National Conference on 10th November at the NAWIC web site.
