On 9th of June, the Blayze Group team will be joining a thousand other property industry runners on Clapham Common for the 20th LandAid 10K race, helping to raise £100,000 to help eliminate youth homelessness in the UK.
With race date fast approaching, Blayze Group's team of runners has finally decided to get some miles in the legs in an effort to avoid cramp, stitches and humiliation on the big day.
To be fair, Recruitment Consultants do spend a lot of their time sitting in front of a computer, in meetings or interviewing candidates - none of which lend themselves to conditioning for running any distance.
Linus Hornsey-Pennell from the Architecture desk has been organising regular after work and lunchtime training runs - some better attended than others. There is a hard core of keen runners, but there have been a few excuses from the less committed - missing kit, waiting for an urgent client call, and strangely, "I need to do some more training before I can do a proper training run". We haven't had a forged note from mum yet, but we're not ruling it out!
While a few claim to be natural athletes with all year round conditioning, there are some who appear to have mastered the art of carbo-loading more quickly than the other elements of their structured training programme. However, the Blayze Group team are committed to upping their activity level as the deadline approaches - some have taken to walking all the way from Victoria rather than alighting at St. James' Park and there is a marked increase in stairwell traffic as our athletes venture to the facilities on the upper floors several times a day - every little helps for the Fitbit figures!
Of course, while the event will be great fun and an opportunity for our more competitive consultants to vie for prizes, the real point is to help raise funds for LandAid's ambitious plans to eradicate youth homelessness. You can help by sponsoring the Blayze Group team here - every little helps and we really do appreciate your contribution!
