What it's really like to work at Blayze Group

At Blayze Group we have recently been interviewing candidates for our Graduate Recruitment Academy, a comprehensive training programme which teaches our unique, bespoke approach to recruiting in the Real Estate sector.

We've been trying to give candidates a flavour of what it's really like to work at Blayze Group - so what better way than just ask someone who works here?

Linus Hornsey-Pennell joined Blayze Group around four months ago and is currently working on the Architecture and Design desk.

We asked Linus a few questions about working as a recruitment consultant at Blayze Group's London office...

 

What’s your background?
I studied Architecture at London Metropolitan University and have worked in a mixture of sales, start up and design roles since then. Architecture recruitment is a great balance of both for me.

How did you become involved in the recruitment industry?
By chance, a friend of a friend and I got chatting at a Christmas party and I asked what he did – he was in recruitment and told me about the benefits of the job.

What has been the most challenging part of the job?
Managing the workflow, I work on the temp desk and it’s very fast paced.

What’s it like working for Blayze Group?
The training has been amazing and the team value every side of the process, whether you’re the candidate, client or employee – that was an important reason for me joining.

We are a busy desk and the work can be demanding, but I’m working with a great team and we really support each other. Working at Blayze Group is also great for your social life – there is always something going on – whether an organised event, networking or just a couple of drinks on Friday after work.

What sort of positions are in demand in Architecture and Design at the moment?
At the moment the architecture sector is showing strong demand for technicians. If you have skills in Microstation, Revit, 3D Studio Max or InDesign then you’re my best friend…

Blayze Group currently has a number of opportunities for Architectural Technologists and Technicians at all levels – including openings at some of the leading Architectural practices in London.

How can Blayze Group compete with larger recruitment agencies?
I think that there are a number of ways… Our values separate us completely and we have a relationship with our candidates that means we understand their needs while also considering the requirements of a client.

Because we are specialists within our sector I think it’s easier for us to understand our client as well. These relationships are difficult to build if you’re a large general recruiter firing out CVs and playing a numbers game.

What would you say to someone considering a career in recruitment today?
I would say that listening is more important than talking. At all levels of the process - whether meeting a client or candidate or in conversation with your manager - listen.

Having a deep understanding of the client brief and the candidates’ capabilities and aspirations is what sets Blayze Group apart in this industry.

What is the best thing about working in recruitment right now?
This is a first and foremost a people business – in recruitment you get to meet and work with some extraordinary people. It is very satisfying when you can help a client find that special talent to drive the business forward or when you can help a candidate on their career path.

This is a busy time in the Real Estate recruitment sector - there are some amazing opportunities and rewards if you’re willing to apply yourself.
